Rublev Rolls Over Martinez Into French Open Second Round

Rublev Rolls Over Martinez Into French Open Second Round

No Trouble For Sixth Seed

Andrey Rublev scored a straight-sets win over Pedro Martinez in the first round of the French Open on Monday. The Russian, who is seeded sixth in the tournament, won 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. Rublev was never really troubled by Martinez, who is ranked 53rd in the world. He broke the Spaniard's serve four times and won 71% of the points on his own serve.

Up Next

Rublev will face Matteo Arnaldi in the second round. The Italian qualifier upset 31st seed Taylor Fritz in the first round. Arnaldi is ranked 133rd in the world, but he has been in good form on clay this year. He won the Biella Challenger in April and reached the semi-finals of the Marrakech Challenger in May.

Rublev will be the heavy favorite against Arnaldi, but the Italian has nothing to lose and could be a dangerous opponent. If Rublev can get past Arnaldi, he could be a threat to win the French Open. He has been in good form this year, winning the Rotterdam Open and reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Rublev's win over Martinez was a good start to his French Open campaign. He will be hoping to continue his good form and make a deep run in the tournament.
