Deadly Crash on Highway 401 in Whitby Ontario

Four Including Infant Killed in Police Pursuit Related Collision

Highway 401 Remains Closed

The Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed that Highway 401 in Whitby Ontario remains closed following a fatal crash involving an infant and grandparents. According to reports, the incident occurred late Monday evening on Highway 401 after a police pursuit.

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that the crash occurred shortly after 11:00 pm during a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle wanted for questioning in connection with a robbery call in Clarington. The police pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns, but the suspect's vehicle continued to flee.

Tragically, the fleeing vehicle crashed into another car on Highway 401, resulting in the deaths of four individuals including an infant, grandparents and driver. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Ontario Provincial Police are continuing the investigation and have closed both directions of Highway 401 in Whitby, between Thickson Road North and Courtice Road. Westbound lanes have since reopened, but eastbound lanes remain closed.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until further notice. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
