Taliban's Initial Ban
The first ban was imposed in Afghanistan by the Taliban in April 2022. The Taliban cited that TikTok's content was not aligned with Islamic values.
EU and NATO Restrictions
In recent months, the three top EU bodies - the European Parliament, European Commission, and the EU Council - have banned TikTok on staff devices due to cybersecurity concerns.
Montana's Statewide Ban
In the United States, Montana has become the first state to implement a statewide ban on TikTok. The ban prohibits the use of TikTok on state-owned devices and networks.
US Nationwide Ban Threats
The US government has also expressed concerns about TikTok and has threatened a nationwide ban. The Biden administration is currently reviewing the platform's potential risks to national security.
